Mrs. Emily Karlewicz is the Owner of The Studio, and teaches Dance, Music Theatre, Acting, and Voice. Emily began dancing at the age of 6, and was trained by Victoria Shiflet Kress, founder of The King George Ballet Co. and School. In High School, after deciding to pursue a life in the Theatre, she performed at The Riverside Dinner Theatre for 2 Seasons. She graduated from college in 2008 from Shenandoah Conservatory, with a BFA in Musical Theatre. Some of her favorite roles include: Alice in Millie, Constance in Lovers and Executioners, Saradipity in Cats, and Graziella in West Side Story. For three years after college, Emily traveled as a tour actor/director with the world-renowned Missoula Children’s Theatre, before moving back home with her husband Evan. Emily is so grateful to all the teachers who inspired her, and encouraged her to dream. She hopes to follow in their footsteps, and spread her love of the arts to all the families of King George, her hometown.
Mrs. Amy Kohl is a Dance Instructor at The Studio. She has enjoyed 15 years of training in competitive gymnastics, and modern dance and has coached a variety of levels and ages of gymnastics for 20 years. She graduated from Longwood College with a B.A. in English Education, a minor in Dance Education and a teaching certificate. When she first became a mommy, she stopped teaching to create Majik Motions, a children’s gymnastics program in Spotsylvania. She has now turned her sights on the King George community. Amy is excited to be able to share her love of acrobatics and kids with The Studio. She hopes to provide a safe, fun environment to allow children to build character and strength while learning the challenges and rewards of physical effort and dedication to goals.
Miss Hope Janowsky has been dancing since she was very young. Throughout her dance career she has performed in many performances including, but not limited too The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, The Gift of the Magi, Giselle and many others. She has been to many different dance intensives and attended classes by many well known and credited choreographers from around the world and dancers from SYTYCD. She has performed in many competitions including the styles tap, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, pointe, and open categories. She has been in competitive group numbers and solos and has choreographed some solos of her own. Dance is her passion and she plans to not only continue her own dance career but help others find their passion in dance as well.
Miss Jay is a dance instructor at The Studio. She was trained from childhood in Cecchetti as well as Vaganovaand, and quickly fell in love with all styles of dance (Hip Hop, Tap, Contemporary and Jazz.) Jay studied as a Dance and Choreography major at Virginia Commonwealth University where she also was a varsity member of the dance team. Jay has worked with Will.I.Am, Jamie Foxx, Cee lo Green, R.Kelly, Trey Songz, Ginuwine, Earth, Wind & Fire, Charlie Wilson, The Time, Rej3ctz and many more. She has also had the opportunity to work under Fatima Robinson as her assistant choreographer, and dance back up for the Back Street Boys in the blockbuster hit "This is the End."
Mr. Jonathan Franklin is a Guitar Instructor for beginner and intermediate level students at The Studio. He has been playing Guitar for 20 years. He enjoys playing Guitar with his band Idle Child, and being a part of his Church's worship team.
Mr. Evan Karlewicz is the husband of Mrs. Emily and is a Piano Instructor for beginner and intermediate level students at The Studio. Along with his teaching, he is also the main photographer for Photos by The Studio. After graduating from Shenandoah University, with a BFA in Musical Theatre, he traveled for three years with the World Renowned Missoula Children's Theatre. Mrs. Emily was his tour partner for those three years. Mr. Evan has many talents, and you will frequently see him working behind the scenes at the recitals, cheering on students at competitions. and lifting heavy things for Mrs. Emily!
Mrs. Tam Yarbrough has been dancing since she was 5 years old and was taught by John Grensback, who was taught by Baryshnikov and the Houston Ballet Academy. She was trained in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, hip hop, modern/contemporary, lyrical, and belly dance. Growing up she played various roles in the classic “Nutcracker Ballet” and Sleeping Beauty.
She later went on to study under Jennifer Broward-Santos, lead dancer of the Sandcastle Showcase. Tam then toured the island of Guam dancing with the show group show case of BodyArts Dance Studio for four years and attended various workshops with choreographer Wade Robinson and Destiny’s Child lead male dancer, Michael Allen. She has taught children and adults for seven years, and is so excited to continue her true passion for teaching the art of dance once more. Tam is a native of Guam, a Chamorrita, a proud military wife, and the mother of five young children. She loves empowering our youth, and guiding them through the creative movement and expression and cannot wait to meet your family and watch as you fall in love with the art of dance.
Mrs. Anita Garbee is a Piano Instructor for beginner and intermediate level students at The Studio. She has been playing the piano for over 40 years. She has a love for music and a passion for teaching children and helping them to excel. Mrs. Garbee grew up in King George and moved back to the county several years ago along with her husband Randy and their three children. She continues to play the piano for enjoyment and as part of the Grace Presbyterian Church worship team.
